Teen Explainers Program at the
Natural History Museum of Utah (Internship)

We are pleased to tell you about an exciting opportunity for high school students at the Natural History Museum of Utah – the Teen Explainers Program! Teen Explainers is a paid internship program focusing on science communication and learning about museums. Applications are now OPEN for the 2024 Summer Cohort which runs from June 11th to August 17th.

Who Should Apply?
Eligible candidates are high school students between the ages of 14 and 18 who are curious, mature, open-minded, and excited to learn more about communication and the natural world.

SLCC Concurrent Enrollment Academy!

CE Summer Academy is an opportunity for high school students to take a concurrent enrollment class on a SLCC Campus during the summer. Priority is given to students who are the first person in their families to attend college. Students who participate in CE Summer Academy will also be given opportunities to mingle with other Summer Academy Students and will participate in activities to help them get to know the SLCC culture and student services. Students who successfully complete their classes will have college credit awarded on their SLCC college transcript. 

Additionally, students who participate in CE Summer Academy are eligible for a free UTA pass to help them get from their home to the Taylorsville-Redwood Campus.

Cottonwood HS Credit Recovery
Credit recovery will be held in the building for students that need to complete credit recovery. A teacher will be in the classroom to help students and monitor tests.
Cost -- to be determined.
Credit recovery is completed online using a program called Edgenuity.
Your counselor will input your credit requirements. If you are not sure what you need that is okay, just show up during open hours and someone can talk to you about what you need and how to get started.

Granite Online Summer Information
May 1, 9am-registration for all the other Granite Online Summer courses opens for counselors. ​
Courses are a full semester and $60 (yes, fee wavier applies). 
General Classes start May 30 and conclude July 23 (Driver ed is May 30-JUNE 27)
Parents/Students need to fill out the consent form (which has the paper registration form embedded).  It is on our website:  https://www.graniteschools.org/curriculuminstruction/granite-online-learning/ 
Parent/Students bring the paper registration form to counselor. 


 




Utah Online School -
A great way to get ahead or take graduation
credits that you don't want to take during the school year because of extra-curricular activities or other commitments.
Classes are free
Begin June 3rd and end July 29th.


 

Early College Online (ECO) - Southern Utah University
For HS students to earn college credit during the summer.
$75 per credit
9th-11th graders are eligible. (Not eligible for seniors)
Registration due by 6/3/2024
Classes are 5/13 - 8/18

 

Weber Basin Job Corps
For Seniors not planning college right away. Train for a career you're passionate about. Advanced Manufacturing, Construction, Hospitality, Renewable Resources and Energy and more.
Located in Ogden, UT, is funded by the U.S. Forest Service and provide trades training to underserved youth, ages 16-24. Our primary focus is youth in low-income households, who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness, and young people emancipating from Foster Care programs. Training is provided in the Forest Service Center, where lodging, food, and basic medical care are provided. The program is open to all who qualify.

West Point Summer Leaders Experience (SLE)

West Point Summer Leaders Experience. Priority Deadline is March 15th, and applications are accepted until April 15. Apply now- https://apply.westpoint.edu/portal/candidate

SLE is a one-week program for current Juniors (High School Class of 2025) to visit West Point in June.
Students in this program get to spend the week with our cadets, live in the barracks, and eat in the mess hall.
Learn about West Point’s world-class academics by trying 5 of our 17 academic workshops.
Learn about military training and becoming a Leader of Character at West Point by completing two military days to include rappelling, Zodiac boats, combatives (like Jiu-Jitsu) training and more!
Challenge themselves physically by attempting the Candidate Fitness Assessment, conducting physical training, and sports.
Complete their admissions interview with a cadet.
Spend the week making friends with other students from all over the US who are applying to West Point.


 

SLCC SUMMER BRIDGE PROGRAM - APPLY AT: https://www.slcc.edu/oss/bridge/index.aspx

Salt Lake Community College is excited to offer the Summer Bridge program for incoming students starting their first semester in Summer 2024. This 8-week program will run from Monday, June 10 to Friday, August 2, 2024, and is designed to provide students with a smooth transition through college life. Additionally, returning SLCC students who have earned 12 credits or less and need to take either English 1010 or English 2010 are encouraged to apply and take advantage of the program's benefits.

As a Bridge participant, you will be able to:
Receive a Summer scholarship covering tuition and student fees
Access opportunities for ongoing financial support for the Fall and Spring semesters
Participate in social activities and events like Boondocks!
Earn a potential stipend after completing the Summer semester
Receive individualized support through Bridge peer mentors and coordinators
Build connections with peers, staff, and faculty
Learn about resources available at Salt Lake Community College
